The creation of the Recycling Energy Council is the culmination of a commitment by both public and private sector entities to tell a consistent, compelling brand story about CHP. A story that will serve to build momentum and stimulate increased implementation of CHP. The Council
brings together trade associations, equipment manufacturers, service
providers and governmental agencies for the purpose of aligning the
CHP community around a shared vision of the future. The Council encourages
others in the energy industry to participate via the Brand Ambassador
program. Brand Ambassador support is critical to building a powerful
CHP Brand in the marketplace.
Following is a brief synopsis of the organizations and individuals on the Council. They represent a broad spectrum of the energy industry, and can serve as expert sources of information.
The Casten Family Foundation supports programs and associations focused on more efficient production, distribution and use of energy. Thomas
R. Casten, is Co-founder and V.P. of the Foundation and
founding Chairman and CEO of Primary
Energy LLC, an Illinois-based firm specializing in the deployment
of recycling energy technologies. Prior to founding Primary Energy,
Tom spent 25 years developing decentralized heat and power as a founding
president and CEO of Trigen Energy Corporation and its predecessors.
These organizations have deployed over $1.0 billion in decentralized
heat and power plants that all achieve at least twice the efficiency
of the US average electric generation plant. Tom currently serves
as the Chairman of the World Alliance for Decentralized Energy or
WADE, an alliance of national and regional combined heat and power
associations, wind, photovoltaic and biomass organizations and various
foundations and governmental agencies seeking to mitigate climate
change by increasing the fossil efficiency of heat and power generation.
Julie
Jones is Senior Project Manager for Cinergy Solutions,
Inc., an organization that provides on-site utility services
using an integrated energy approach from commodity, fuel and electricity
purchases to final consumption. Cinergy builds, owns, operates and
maintains energy systems providing CHP as well as other sources,
project implementation and construction management. Cinergy offers
environmental compliance expertise, works to match clients' energy
generation to consumption and integrates new technology with existing
systems to maximize assets. The organization is also a leader in
preventative maintenance, safety and training, monitoring, measuring
and environmental reporting.
Tim
French is Legal Counsel for the Engine Manufacturers
Association, the voice of the engine manufacturing industry
on domestic and international public policy, regulatory, and technical
issues. Tim is well-versed on issues that impact manufacturers of
engines used in a broad array of mobile and stationary applications
from automotive and marine vessels to utility equipment and generators.
The EMA is a leading advocate and sponsor of scientific and technical
research on energy and emissions issues. The EMA works with governmental
agencies, regulators and other energy leaders on the development
and implementation of regulations, procedures and programs designed
to cost-effectively reduce emissions from internal combustion engines
and to improve the quality of the fuels and lubricants on which they
operate. Through continuing improvements in engine technology and
emissions control, EMA's members are leaders in providing efficient
engine power to an environmentally conscious world.
John
Kelly is Executive Director of the Distributed Energy
Resources Center (DERC) at the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) in
Chicago. The Center works to accelerate the development and deployment
of highly efficient, low-emissions distributed energy (DE) technologies
and produce sustainable energy development resources for metropolitan
communities. Kelly is also a national leader in urban planning and
management of energy consumption heading up the newly created Sustainable
Energy Planning Office (SEPO). In collaboration with energy, environment
and planning experts, SEPO addresses the growing demand for energy
and corresponding public concern for the impact of energy-related
pollutants on the local and global environments. SEPO produces sustainable
energy development resources, including guides, strategies, programs
and projects that integrate energy, environmental, transportation
and building technologies to maximize efficiency, reliability and
security.
Rob
Thornton is President of the International District
Energy Association (IDEA). IDEA works to advance global
environmental quality and promote reliable, economical, efficient
and environmentally friendly energy services. IDEA advocates an integrated
District Energy/Combined Heat and Power Plant system to reduce the
amount of energy wasted by standard plants from 60% to 20%. IDEA's
model comparison demonstrates the capacity of recycling energy through
a combined District Energy/CHP approach to produce 80% energy, 40%
for heating and cooling and 40% for electricity. IDEA has a 90-year
history with a consistent mission of advancing industry knowledge
and furthering relationships of energy professionals through information
sharing, advocacy and education.
John
Jimison, is Executive Director of the USCHPA (United
States Combined Heat and Power Association). The USCHPA
is a non-profit organization created in 1999 to bring together diverse
market interests to promote the growth of clean, efficient CHP. The
USCHPA advocates public policy and promotes the vast-reaching benefits
of CHP by documenting results, reporting the benefits of CHP, educating
the public and policymakers, and creating opportunities for members
to network and share information. In particular, the USCHPA is committed
to the CHP programs of the U.S. Department of Energy and the CHP
Partnership Program of the Environmental Protection Agency. ©2004 Recycling Energy Council
